Farsightedness | Hyperopia |
Hyperopia (farsightedness) without astigmatism means that the near vision is blurred and distance vision may or may not be blurred depending on the patient's age and other factors. This is because light is focused behind the retina secondary to one or more of the following reasons:
In hyperopia, vision can be corrected by altering the curve on the front of the eye to make the curve steeper. However, this is somewhat more difficult to do than making the curve flatter as in myopia.
Also, as in myopia, an artificial lens can be placed inside the eye without removing the normal lens of the eye, for people that are severely farsighted. This is controversial.
