Cataract and intraocular lens implant surgery is a primary service of our practice. We are proud to have been the first practice in the area to offer small incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery. We were performing this small incision surgery with lens implants for our patients with cataracts for many years before other ophthalmologists in the area.
Prior to cataract surgery, our A-scan diagnostic ultrasound and computer are utilized to determine the power of the lens to be implanted for our patients to try to reduce future dependence on glasses.
In addition, we do have specular microscopy available to determine if there may be a potential problem, which may be avoided, for patients who want cataract and lens implant surgery.
Foldable lens implants now allow even smaller incisions. Virtually all our cataract and lens implant surgery is done as outpatient surgery within the safety of St. Joseph's Hospital in West Bend.
Our patients check in for surgery and usually leave 3-4 hours later. Medicare and other insurance is routinely accepted.
Medicare often covers part or all of the cost for spectacle frames and lenses obtained for the first time immediately after cataract-lens implant surgery.
